- How long has ElderHouse been around? Is it part of a chain?
ElderHouse has been caring for older adults for more than 30 years. There are 40 other adult day centers in Connecticut, but only one ElderHouse. ElderHouse is the only not-for-profit adult day center dedicated to serving the greater Norwalk community including Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Weston, Westport and Wilton.
- Is ElderHouse certified?
ElderHouse is certified by the Connecticut Association of Adult Day Care Centers. Year after year, ElderHouse has received certification with commendation, ranking it one of the top elderly service providers in the state.
- How does my parent/spouse qualify?
If your parent/spouse has physical or cognitive difficulties due to the aging process, we can help. Our social worker will assess each person individually to see if ElderHouse can benefit him or her. Prior to enrollment, each person is invited to visit, meet the staff and other clients and have lunch on us.
- Who will care for my parent/spouse at ElderHouse?
The ElderHouse staff is the best! Your parent/spouse can look forward to the care and pampering of experience professionals including our social worker, registered nurse and recreation director. ElderHouse has one of the most highly rated staffs in the industry.
- Should my parent's/spouse's doctor approve?
Many area physicians not only endorse, but recommend ElderHouse to their senior patients. They are assured that their patients receive daily medical supervision, medication administration, regular blood pressure checks and meals that meet their dietary needs under the supervision of ElderHouse's staff nurses.
- What about the meals?
The clients rave about the food. Each meal, lunch daily and dinner on extended days, is planned by a nutritionist and altered to fit the dietary needs of each client.
- What time will the van pick up my parent/spouse?
ElderHouse has five vans that run each morning and afternoon. Our transportation coordinator tries to schedule rides to accommodate the needs of clients and family caregivers.
- Does ElderHouse take people who are incontinent?
ElderHouse has certified nurses' aides who assist those participants who experience incontinence, ensuring their comfort and security.
- Do you take people that suffer from Alzheimer's disease?
At ElderHouse we accept individuals with a variety of aging diseases. The staff is highly trained to provide care and recreation to those who suffer the ill effects of both cognitive deficits such as Alzheimer's Disease and dementia and physical diseases such as stroke and Parkinson's Disease.
- How much does it cost?
You would be surprised to find how affordable ElderHouse is. A day at ElderHouse is much less than other care alternatives, such as home care and assisted living and long-term care. A full day of care, including transportation, is only $82/day. ElderHouse offers a sliding fee scale for those who need financial assistance.
